I had two works in the major exhibition of the Cairns Art Society, held annually at one of the country's best regional galleries, the Cairns Art Gallery. "Understory I" won in the category of best digitally manipulated work.

The Understory works combine tropical plant life and man-made elements both historical and current to simulate nature retaking an ancient site. The picture-within-a-picture device is used for the narrative. "Understory" refers to a plant base but also to the back history of the region. The spine of this "story book" is partly natural (an unfurled monstera deliciosa leaf) and industrial (a metal door hinge).
